Was travelling to Robinson River from Borroloola today. On one of the crossings I didn’t turn the electric fan of and it was just deep enough to grip the water and broke 3 blades of and one put a hole in the radiator. As a temporary fix I unplugged the pump and continued on all be it with a lot less right foot to keep the egt’s in limits. I’ve removed the radiator and will attempt a repair when I’m back in Borroloola.
Having this happen really highlighted the effect of not running with an intercooler. Inlet temps went from 45-50 to 85-90 on the flat dirt road. The egt’s also were much higher. If I was to run any great distance I would have to turn the fuel down a lot. The engine fan ran a lot more as well.

Stop here along the way and we can have catch-up.

If you, or anyone else is headed over from Perth, I might get some of those rims from Dean... which earns a nice feed too.

After removing the radiator in Robinson River I drove back to Borroloola without issue all be it with one eye on the egt’s.
I dug the fins out around the broken tube with a screw driver. I then cut the broken part of the tube out with some side cutters and open it up. I was then able to fill the tube with JB weld epoxy and close it up with pointy nose pliers. I then filled the rest of the area up till it was proud. It all went back in with not leaks. Time will tell.
After experimenting at different speeds with the fan on and of on the way up and realising it made no real difference to the temperature after the intercooler. I’m not going to replace it. Will see how it goes with plenty of hot dirt to come.
