Hi All,

Some pictures of 169, just picked up from Katherine yesterday. Drove it the 700 odd kms home.
Things found so far
A/C not working
Heater not working
Stereo not working
Air steps not working, not sure if there is a compressor somewhere.
I think all the springs need changing
Front shock bushes worn out.
Rear Diff`s have second bolt for Shocks I think. One plate is done at front, second not done. But nothing on chassis.
Several oil leaks.
Also can any one indentify the steering box? I am not sure if its the upgraded one or not.

Look at the bottom of s/box, the upgraded tas 3o is cast with two mounting bolts below chassis. The old Kirby has alloy cover with four bolts & mostly covered in oil leaks Brett

Something is missing and why cut off the fittings?

Some spares I was given.

What sort of $ did you pay for it . It's all relative.

I am not complaining. Just putting up what I found.
Owner wanted 31k, but paid a little less than this.
Its a 18 yo vehicle that has spent all its life on dirt roads in Arnhem Land. So cant expect to be perfect.
Like most OKA`s regardless of price, they are a project that never seems to end.
I am looking forward to giving it a tidy up. Will do springs etc etc. None of the springs seem to match. Shocks worn out etc.

My view is,when you buy a 18yo working vehicle you must do a complete rebuild, after that and if it was done right the vehicle will be good and reliable ,but if you repair as it breaks it will be a never ending chore, preventitive maintenance at home = happy times on the road.
Cheers,Joe

Hi Joe,
I agree. I am a sucker for punishment. I have been down this road before. But in a better position this time to get things done.
Its funny, how many 18yo Canters etc you still see around and worked that long.
Funny how this OKA had the shocker mounts on the Diff for second pair. Must have never been fitted at the OKA factory. Front was the same, nothing on the chassis.
Will start ordering things this week. Some things on the list are
order new springs, u bolts, shocks etc, probably from Adelaide.
Lift pump, engine idles rough on incline, maybe lift pump.
Gasket for exhaust manifold. It has a leak somewhere
Aircon compressor
Wiper blade arms, brackets etc
New spring hangers
New later version bull bar brackets
Oh and a million other things. I will make an album up for it.

I have a few, see below, I will get some more later. It is over a friends yard.None of the springs are the same. Few Oil leaks including rear diff. Exhaust leak at manifold.
Also hunts when cold, maybe fuel pump or valves clearance........

Drove home the 700 odd kms fine. Good on fuel, used around 100 litres. Any incline scares the perkins, but on the flat its good for around 100kph.

Cant get it re painted locally, nearest painter is 500 odd kms away......

"Lift pump, engine idles rough on incline, maybe lift pump."

If only on one particular tank then it could also be a blocked strainer.

One of your photos showed the two in-line strainers just before the fuel changover switch.

Look pretty clean so maybe new and perhaps not a cause of the problem. Mine showed up because on one tank was no problems while on the other, power wqas down at times once the tank level got down a bit. Low revs worse because the lift pump not able to suck up enough fuel.
Filter was full of black "powder"
If your problem is the same on both tanks, then would be worth checking the water separator/filter which is next in the fuel line between the fuel selector valve and the lift pump
