Cable gear shift
Isuzu 6spd manual to Rockwell. Not enough time before Tassie trip to configure Nissan transfer box. Will do that next year.
Front diff got a birthday. full strip. new inner and outer axle seals, flexible and steel brake lines, springless kingpin setup.
Both fuel senders were buggered. new ones fitted as well as some paint.
New air filter
Engine fits pretty good. Should be back on its wheels next week. Then its up with the rear end for wheel bearings, brake lines and calipers.

Iv'e done all the work myself and I will add up the cost when i've finished but i reckon less than $10,000. There were a few tricky things but i have made a lot of notes and recorded parts used. If I had my time again I would buy a wrecked Isuzu rather than just an engine and box.
Future mods. are nissan transfer, intercooler(maybe), paint the cab.

I spoke to the company for the hand brake and got them to spec one for the OKA.
Is this one of the shelf or made to suit the OKA?

Peter and Sandra James OKA 374 wrote: Darren sort of raises a good point Russ as the engineer I've spoken to will not sign off on a transfer case and handbrake from a lighter vehicle being used on the Oka. Stands to reason I guess as a GCM of 7t is a long way above what a Patrol is rated at.
I can see were the engineer is coming from but the hand brake i removed from the rear of the isuzu gear box is the same diameter as the nissan although it is 5mm wider.
A NQR450 from which my engine/box is from has a GVM of 8700kg and GCM of 12200kg!
The isuzu handbrake is on the left. The nissan one is missing the screw adjuster and a couple of springs. Almost identical.
Show the engineer that you have fitted a NQR450 handbrake to the back of the nissan transfer case. See what he says.

Yes that does sound a good idea. I will need to find out if the transfer case will bolt up to my gearbox with the rear extension removed or whether it was a specific box in the 4wd models. If i have to buy another box it will probably be auto. Finding a donor auto with transfer from a 4wd isuzu might be tough. But i will investigate further.

I found i had the wrong gear shifter. The H pattern was right to left. Drove it like this for a couple of weeks until the correct one arrived. Really had to think before changing gears to get the one you wanted.
Pulls well up hills, holds speed, no die in the arse.
Will be even better once intercooled.

Outback Jack wrote: Whats the fuel economy been like???
No data yet as iv'e only been running around on a partial tank.
What I have noticed though is when sitting on the flat at 100k/h the exhaust temp reads just under 400deg. With the Perkins it would have been 500deg at that speed with the pedal pushed in deep. So I'm figuring its using less full for same speed???
I've filled up a tank and will calc. distance travelled as of next week on the trip down the coast to Melb. then on the boat to Tassie.
I'll attempt to report findings while away.

Not exactly sure of the year as I bought the eng+box on a pallet. But by the engine number it is pre 10/1995.
The engine is a 4HE1-T 4.8litre from Isuzu NQR450. I chose this engine as it is the last of the 4 cylinder mechanical fuel pump engines as well as other convenient things like the alternator, exhaust and air cond. on the right hand side like the Perkins and fuel pump and intake on the left. Some engines are intercooled some not. First appeared in 1994 and went through to about 2004. The later engines have EGR systems.
