To those who are running these tyres,

what should the speedo dip switch be set to?

and

has anyone managed to mount one where the spare goes? Mine doesn't fit between the rear diff and towbar.

Thanks

Hi Frank,

#403 was running 270s on 19.5" rims before I put the 325s on and when I checked it against the GPS is was only a few k's out. So it probably wasn't accurate before.

403 is a dual cab tray and my spare fits neatly (and I mean neatly) where it is supposed to go. It just touches the nuts on the spring hanger pins on both sided and has about a couple of inch gap behing the tow bar cross member.

Buses will be different because they have an extended tow bar frame.

Cheers

Both Mick (#236) and myself bought those XML tyres. Mick has fitted them already and his spare sits in the space for such spare with next to nothing to spare East-West and a few cms North-South. I did not know there was a difference in the bodies relating to space for spares. Must measure my space then. No, we have done nothing about the speedos yet, heehee, waiting for somebody to provide the solution. Hank

I fitted the 325s on #403 about a month ago haven't done any off road work yet, however have done about 1500kms on the black stuff. I have been very surprised at the low road noise which confirms what I was hoping for as I had a drive of John's (from Cairns) earlier this year and that was what convinced me to go for them.

I bought mine off Paul Nott (East Coast Oka), there are also a couple of other importers as well. They are second hand, generally about 90 - 95% tread and mine were about $500 each.

Got my tyres from Okadoc but this is also a source:

www.aircrafttyres.com/truck_4x4_tyres.html

Noise: yes a bit more, but to me not a problem.

Gearing: a bit higher as tyres are taller, just have to change down a gear a bit earlier. Lowest gear is low enough not to notice.

We changed Mick's Oka to 35 splines all around, mine still to be done.

Quote from Tyre Supplier

"The tyres you are chasing are not in stock in Australia. These tyres are three months away from coming in. If you require these tyres I suggest you put in an order and pay for the tyres up front ASAP as there is no guarantee that they will be available when the stock arrives into Australia. Currently there are 310 tyres that other customers have placed orders for.

At 4.5 times the cost of my last set they would want to never wear out and never get punctures!

Tyre supplier was in Darwin, and although I think these are good tyres, not sure I could jusitfy the cost. Even 2nd hand they are 500 odd dollars.

Not sure what I will do yet, but think I should be able to buy new for around 500 dollars each.

Getting back to the original question: I haven't tracked down where on the site/s the original information lives, but I did find this in an old forum post:

Ah, I see there are two articles on speed settings on the site.
This one
OKA Speedo Settings
These are only a guide only (calculated by mathematics).
Tyre Size 11.00 R16 Speedo Setting 4&8 On
Tyre Size 9.00 R16 Speedo Setting 8 On
Tyre Size 305/70 R19.5 Speedo Setting 8 Off
Tyre Size 255/100R16 Speedo Setting 1& 8 Off
Tyre Size 285/70R19.5 Speedo Setting 1,2 & 8 Off
Tyre Sizes 8.25R16 and 265/70 R19.5 Speedo Setting 2,3 & 8 Off
This information supplied courtesy Peter Davis.
was the one I saw and following it produced some crazy results - possible because of a misinterpretation of what "8 OFF" means.
The other article which shows all the settings always has 8 ON so the suggestions by Peter may have the switch upside down or back to front or whatever.

XT Speedo Sensor TURCK # BI8U-M18-AN6X available from Micromax 1300 326 626

... and then found this info too (but the tyre size is of no use to you):

For tyre size 9.00 - 16
Switch position on 8.
Switch position off 1 to 7.
Tacho reading 2048 rpm
Speedo reading 70 Km/h

... but that tacho reading and speed don't correspond to 5th gear, so I don't know what that means either.

I am gradually populating the Technical Documents section (under Documents and Data) with information from the previous site and new stuff. Documents are categorised in the same order as the sections in the Oka manuals, so Speedo Settings will be found in the Electrical and Instrumentation area.

The Site Search function at the bottom of each web page can be used to locate specific topics. Most of these documents are pdf files which will open in their own window (use your Back button to return).

If you have any suggestions or are aware of useful info I could put in this section please contact me.
