Saw a large Isuzu tour bus which had instead of the metal safety hoop, had a plastic covered cable suspended chassis rail to chassis rail under the transmission shaft.A simpler more flexible solution possibly

Len, a chain/cable may prevent a broken drive shaft from digging into the ground but a steel hoop will also prevent it flailing around dangerously.

We had a front drive shaft which came loose at the rear UJ. It flailed around damaging the transfer box linkages but we were travelling slowly and were fortunate it didn't damage the gearbox, clutch housing or worse.

The bolts holding the small UJ straps came out. I've since replaced the straps with U bolts for reliability.
