No forward momentum. Returning home after a quick 2000 k trip all on black top when everything ground to a halt no go. Lifted the lid and to my surprise some little thief had stolen my fuel filter. No problem I have a spare but what I did not have was the glass and the bottom bolt to screw it together. The filter was due for replacement so had been to Birdsville and back. So my questions are 1/ has this happened to anyone else 2/ how do we prevent this happening again. 3/ can I buy the glass and bolt anywhere or is it special (like me) Any suggestions please.

It's a standard CAV part Greg so should be available anywhere that sells tractor or truck parts. You would probably get a secondhand one at truck wreckers too. You can buy a brand new whole assembly from Whitworths online or instore they were under a $100 last time I looked.

No, I haven't had it happen to me but I have seen it on parked machinery.

The primary fuel filter on 191 is a standard common "CAV" type. Doubt you will get just the glass & bolt, you will probably need to buy the whole unit. Many 4WD outlets have them.

Re prevention.... Some sort of locking device to prevent access?

You sure it was stolen? Not fallen off??

I have had in the past had the bolt come loose and the bowl etc come off.

169 had filters and bowls bolted to battery tray. Not sure if Rob has changed it, but I never had a problem with theft.

Greg the glass water trap probably cracked which can happen if it is overtightened or fatigued with age ,you can get one with an aluminium bowl instead of glass I use that one and I have fitted spin on filters with water drain screws and they act as primary filters [one on each tank] so you don't need a water trap on the CAV Filter.
Cheers Dave
