We can't make it this time . A week later would have been better. Glad it was shifted from January. No way would you camp in any of the range country the way the weather and fire danger is.
On the fire scene two of our members have been impacted by the fires. Ron and Lyn Quigley on the south coast saved the house and sheds but everything else, cattle, sheep, chooks and fences was burnt. Paul and Micaela Scherek near Bega saved their house and sheds and the rest of the farm is burnt black. Apart from the shock, they are all OK.

Fran thanks for the news re the Quigley's and the Scherek's, we were on the point of trying to contact them again to see how things were. Tried ringing a few days ago but couldn't make contact, turns out it was our end that was disconnected at that time.

Thanks George and Fran and Peter, we are fine - tomorrow is apparently the big one, and residents of Bemboka have been told to evacuate, Fire went through us a couple of days ago, so we don't have a lot left to burn, so are staying to protect the Oka! Thanks for trying to phone, comms have been out here since Monday. Internet working for the first time today.
Cheers all, hope we can make the meet this year, a much better time of year for us.

Not so lucky Jim & Mili, Oka 325 from Mallacoota who have 'lost the lot'. They were 'fortunate' enough to be in Brisbane with #325 at the time where Jim is recovering after several strokes.

Paul spoke with Mili yesterday and today and has offered whatever assistance we as an Oka group may be able to provide. They're both pretty devastated as can be expected but Mili did mention that they were looking to fit a new set of tyres on their Oka before returning to whatever's left of 'home' as the old ones are completely shot.

Paul is organising for this to happen. A few of us local Oka'ites had already planned a small get together tomorrow and I'm sure we'll raise enough to get this done. If anyone else would care to chip in please contact Oka Paul (0418 125 428) and let him know :)

Thanks
Deano & Kaye
