OK, probably should be in the spares topic, but if anyone going to Mayford is interested, I can bring them along. I don't wish to arrange freight etc, but I would like them out of the shed!

Thanks for that, the James' and the Phelan's are camped at Smoko on the Ovens river just out of Bright. Heading up to the High Plains today, after a clear night it seems to be clouding over and the forecast is for thunderstorms.

Weather has been good with a small thunderstorm late yesterday and few sprinkles which didn't even lay the dust, today has dawned with a clear blue sky and 18 degrees.

There were 26 at Mornington in 2007. Be great if you can beat that record.....

Cheers, Peter.

Think 6bt is the winning vote for re-powering.
Transmission/Gearboxes is still not a common choice

A few mechanical problems sorted out yesterday and much discussion on various vehicles with the afternoon spent at the Beales as the rear diff was rebuilt and the twisted axles were admired, just goes to show what over 300hp + 5 tonne of Oka + 2 1/2 tonne of trailer can do!
Some of the ladies congregated at the James' and knitted, sewed, quilted and chatted the afternoon away while the kids swam in the river and all had a ball. A few test drives of different vehicles also occurred during the day and there were a few smiles afterwards. Might be a few more engine swaps!

Lucky Buggers.
Would be great to see so many OKA`s in one place.
Also would be good to see some of the engine conversions.

The climb out claimed a rear diff on Rasa & Mins yesterday and they are limping home in front wheel drive.
I think most are intending to leave the valley today and spend tonight camped up on the top where it was according to the forecast 1C overnight.
Yes the Cummins conversions might have outnumbered the Perky's and there are now possibly a few more being organised after test drives!

2 diffs? what wheels were they running ?
35 axles fix the axle weakness.
diff's seem to be failing regularly!!
age, HP, overload, could be the cause;;
the gathering we had here a couple of years ago, 3 diffs didn't make it!!
OKAs 091, 093, 094, 113, 346x6 & 405

Maybe need to learn from the electrical industry and design a fuse into the system so nothing important gets damaged in the event of an shock overload. Axles are cheaper and easier to replace than diffs, especially if the weak point is right at the outside flange where it can't damage much else rather than in at the splines where it eventually takes out the diff as well.
What wheels? Min's OKA is pretty much stock OKA while the other is a heavily modified "monster truck" towing a 3 tonne "monster" trailer

The Beales Oka though weighs around 5.5t with full camper fitout, 300hp plus Cummins, huge Michelins and over 2.5t trailer with two motorbikes, microlight plane and full workshop facilities in very steep terrain is straining the friendship. He did think the rear diff had gone after the rebuild on the way out but it just turned out to be clutch plates binding when it was pulled out for inspection.
Great night camped here at 1517m on the rim looking out over a huge vista, we still have 8 Oka's here. Cool overnight down to 2C when we went to bed but 5c this morning, we haven't decided if it is cloud or fog that surrounds us.

Errrr, maybe every second weekend so we can repair the diffs in between.
And also gives those with hidden NP205 gremlins to force them out in the open
