What's the length difference between an Allison/Nissan setup versus the 4l80e/NP205? I've been searching a bit but can't find much, does anybody know? Dave could you possibly measure from start of bellhousing (rear mounting face of engine) to mounting surface for rear yoke? And can someone do the same for the 4l80e/NP205 setup?
Both would be great to know so we can make a decently informed decision...!
Cheers, Alister

Ripper guys, thanks for that! I measured the standard setup to roughly 1230mm from the front of the engine/bellhousing adapter plate to rear yoke mounting surface.

This means that the Allison/Nissan setup is similar in length to the standard setup, so did you extend your chassis for the camper setup Dave, not to accommodate the new drivetrain?

Peter, i thought the rear driveshaft was already quite short but obviously you guys have no troubles with it being roughly 200mm shorter?! Have you tilted the drivetrain/diffs to reduce the angle on the U-Joints?

Thanks to both, that's exactly what i and probably a lot of others wanted...

Cheers, alister

We extended the chassis 200mm to accommodate the Allison prior to knowing the length. We have also set up our Engine and Trans up high for extra ground clearance

The Perky is just slightly more nose up, occasionally in low range the fan touches the top of the shroud.
As quite a few Oka's have had done I fitted 16mm tapered shims under the spring perches to rotate the diff nose up slightly to about where it should be as in standard form the diff nose points down which is why Oka's have a reputation of chopping out uni joints. This gives a good line for the rear tailshaft and doesn't affect the front one.
The tailshafts are standard GU Nissan with Oka compatible outer ends.
As I said in the earlier post the Marks Nissan transfer adapter for Oka's includes a clocking ring which I didn't use as it is designed for a Chev V8 install and the transfer case would be further forward which could cause clearance issues between the front tailshaft and the transmission pan, with the Perkins that doesn't happen as the industrial flywheel housing moves the transmission 155mm rearward.

Alister, I cut the rear spring saddles off & rotated the pinion up to point at the back of the transfer case. A double cardan joint on the front of the shaft & it is as smooth as silk. I also cut a rectangle out of the rear diff cover & welded it back in upside down to raise the fill level so the pinion bearings don't hate me.
