Hi all I'm in the process of driving 169 from Derby to Taree NSW via Brisbane after purchasing the bus. Having a ball although we are nursing what we think is a dodgy gearbox. Very happy with the bus so far.My question is does anyone have any bus seats or know where I might get some we need at least the rear 7.

Rob

Hi Rob, can't help with seats but they are often available.

Dodgy gearbox in what way? Many gear selection problems are related to the gear shift mechanism and can be corrected by linkage adjustments.

The first thing I recommend is to check that the pinch bolt on the gear selector shaft is fully tight (item 2 on the top right of the gearbox). A loose selector lever can create all sorts of selection problems.

If it's not that there are several other places to look.

David,

Its noise in the gearbox. I had done such a good job of insulating the cab, I never heard it from the front. However if you sit in the bus module its quite noisy.

I never noticed it in the time I had it, so I can only guess its been like that for a while.

281 I have just brought jumps out of third and fifth, I am hoping this is just shifter issue.

Checking the oil level is about all you can do from outside.

You could grease the clutch release bearing/lever (via the nipple on the bottom of the bell housing inspection plate), they can rattle and screech when dry. Half a dozen pumps will help, you can't see where the grease is going.

Thankyou all for your Gearbox ideas we arrived home around midnight last night. After 5000km's in just a few days I am really impressed with the OKA even with a noisy Gear train.

Rob, I suggest you call Paul Nott (East Coast Oka) and/or Robin Wade (Goldfields Oka) and ask about the common causes of gear train noises. They are both very knowledgeable people and might be able to offer advice or solutions.

Check the Parts and Suppliers list for their contact details.

Hi Rob,
Welcome to the OKA group,if I was you I will set up the OKA on blocks to clearly identify the noisy area,I just did a transfer case rebuild and from inside the cab it sounded like a gearbox problem.
Yell out if you need any help.
Cheers,Joe

That's the plan. The reason we think it's the gearbox is the noise is worst in fourth and firth from about 60km's. The noise is not there when you back of and is worst when you only have part throttle. The diff is obviously a possibility as well.

Whereabouts are you? no point in shipping them across the country. I've got two mounted together as that is all that was in the back of 374 in its previous life with the RAAF.

We have 6 doubles and 2 singles and are willing to part with some have no idea what they are worth but you are welcome to look and make an offer. A trip down south is always good.
