Dodgy gearbox in what way? Many gear selection problems are related to the gear shift mechanism and can be corrected by linkage adjustments.
The first thing I recommend is to check that the pinch bolt on the gear selector shaft is fully tight (item 2 on the top right of the gearbox). A loose selector lever can create all sorts of selection problems.
If it's not that there are several other places to look.

Its noise in the gearbox. I had done such a good job of insulating the cab, I never heard it from the front. However if you sit in the bus module its quite noisy.
I never noticed it in the time I had it, so I can only guess its been like that for a while.
281 I have just brought jumps out of third and fifth, I am hoping this is just shifter issue.

You could grease the clutch release bearing/lever (via the nipple on the bottom of the bell housing inspection plate), they can rattle and screech when dry. Half a dozen pumps will help, you can't see where the grease is going.

Welcome to the OKA group,if I was you I will set up the OKA on blocks to clearly identify the noisy area,I just did a transfer case rebuild and from inside the cab it sounded like a gearbox problem.
Yell out if you need any help.
Cheers,Joe
