Hey all,

Have been trying to put an override switch in for the step air compressor today but cant find the controlling relay or fuse in the glove box or under the shifter panel .

Any input on where in cab I could take the power for a relayed switch without having to rerun cables through the engine bay?

In addition, I'm trying to run a another aux power cable what is on the ignition power circuit, but I'm having trouble picking up the best line, seems all my standard aux sockets are constant power so cant take off them.

Sorry if they are stupid questions but was getting frustrated for what I thought would be a half hour job.

Cheers,
Robh

290 would be an LT and behind the passengers seat in the flat section there is a removeable lid with all the electrics apart from the little fusebox beside the glovebox which controls the front stuff.
Usually four 6mm Phillips headed screws although on ours they are a standard 10mm hex head.

OKA 374 LT Van, converted to camper/motorhome,
400ah Lithiums, 1100w solar, diesel cooking heating and HWS,
Cummins 6BT, Allison 6 speed auto, Nissan transfer.

Thanks, got it all sorted out.
The rear fuse box was a hassle to get to because of the Stratos seats and draws on top.
Ended up finding the right power feed to the compressor and put a relay in, override switch done.

WRT to rollovers
Nearly rolled my discovery tdi 300 on some crazy creek bank because 2 wheels one front and one back dropped into holes
Pivoted on the othe 2 , the Oka has ridiculous wheel travel and with low range speeds I believe it would have less chance at rollover than
Modern independent suspension 4wds

I analysed a couple of Peter's near roll overs in earlier quiet moments, one was at about 30º and another at 23º from the vertical.

Both look (and probably felt) quite dramatic but in neither case did the Oka roll.

Given the heavy weight which is low down on an Oka, (engine, transmission, axles, wheels etc) the CoG would be central and around rear floor level, so you'd need to incline an Oka at > 45º for a static roll over, even for a tall motorthome design. For a cab chassis model even higher inclines would be needed.

A rollover would more likely be caused by a sudden turn or digging in at high speed or maybe sliding sideways while traversing a soft sand dune at an ill-advised angle.

I have had #196 on 2 wheels twice.
Once in Tassi on hot mix black top. Simply going around a corner too fast. Our previous F350 and slide on would slide, but the 305 Michelins have a lot of grip. Very scary. Just as well there was somewhere to go.

Second time was on the OTT when I got too close to the RH bank and it climbed up.
There were no wheel marks on the RHS for several meters.

Amasing how far the LHF wheel moved....no damage....

Peter

You can easily tell when your Oka is leaning too far, there is a sudden silence from the passenger's seat.
