A few issues on the XT…

1) the thing sometimes needs multiple twist of the key before it starts.
(Solenoid?)

2) The high beams stopped working, but they work when I flash them with a pull of the lever.
I did notice that they were going on and off over bumpy roads, so suspect a chaffed wire causing a short.

Is there a fuse for them somewhere? And where is it?

3) The fan is blowing the fuse. Are there any more or less likely candidates for cause?
Chaffed wire?
Resistor block?

Thanks

Hi Holmz. Ex owner of 195 here. This is probably not the solution to your first issue but I parked up 195 after a Kimberley trip and it refused to start next time. Checked the solenoid fuse, cracked the injectors, checked the lift pump all to no avail. Repeated this the next day, no success. Even though the fuse was ok I replaced it. No go. Replaced the old fuse back in and voila, the engine started. The issue was light corrosion of the fuse block and the pulling out and pushing in of the fuse eventually created contact. Your problem sounds more intermittent, good luck with a solution. Cheers Peter.
