Gear shift cables

Have seen how to adjust the cables in the 'training' pdf.

Where do you get the cables for the 4WD gear shifter?
Rockwell transfer case
Not sure if I need the cables but asking the question as I'm missing the 4L shifter end cable bolt
Must be a reason

How do you get access to the cables and locking nuts other than working blind through the engine cover?
Fan cowling looks a pain to get off because of the upper bolt locations and fan
