Sitting around wondering what to do with your OKA this weekend? How about settting it up with remote greasing points for all the shackle pins! I spotted this arrangement on #364 recently; the pictures can tell the story:

Now that I like! Brilliant. Does anyone know of a supplier of the various fittings required? Pity we can't do the tailshaft as well.....

Hose companys like Enzed should be able to supply the fittings and hose but a company that supplies Airequiphose i believe that Coventrys has a division in Redcliff would be best as you can make each hose yourself the other companies like Enzed use a hydraulic press to make the connections of hose to fitting .

I wonder if there are the push in air connectors, like on airbag inflators that could work, make it easy to fit up at home.

Yes, automotive places like coventry or bearing retailers all have the fittings. For the stern gland on the boat, I used 3/16 copper tubing and simple connectors, but one can use semi rigid plastic hydraulic hose I suppose. In my case i went even one step further, I leave the grease gun attached (hidden behind a little door).
So take the nipple out, fit the connector, attach hose, and on the other end fit nipple or connect to grease gun. If you can't find connector to fit nipple thread, maybe a small tap is needed.

Why bother. Aren't most of them accessible from the outside. Anyway, getting down and dirty occasionally is a good opportunity to have a close look at what is going on with the rest of the running gear.

If you want something that would make sense, put a drain plug in the diff covers. Yes, I have heard the one about them not being there so you have to take the covers off to check if there is any water or broken bits inside so while you have the cover off why not check the carrier bolts - but I doin't believe in the easter bunny either.

My MC8 has about 20 remote grease lines and about 1/4 of them have been removed for one reason or another.

BTW, how canyou be sure the grease is getting to where it should be if you are standing up on the outside.

There is at least one Oka fitted with automatic greasing to all suspension points, the one we met at Penong had it fitted.(see "Spotted an Oka" thread)

Posts: 109 My 2nd OKA is an ex army bus and both the ones I looked at had the auto greasing sytem on them and I have seen at least 10 Other army ones had had them all on. I have disconnected the unit as you have a reserve unit under there that one has to fill with a special unit andthen it is controlled by a computer that greases each day. I prefer to know that it actually is getting the grease. It actually used to grease 21 points. Regards ABE TONY

Remote sounds good, but you'd still need to have a bit of a ganda when you're dun in case it wasn't working as it should.

Amazing! And here's me thinking one of the benefits of owning an OKA was its simplicity. Putting another dozen or so components between me and EACH of the shackle pins doesn't really seem to help me to better see, hear and feel and thus know that they are being greased correctly. Think I'll pass on this one.
